One Exceptional Day to Remember!  Attendees came from as far away as Maui to celebrate, network, and support HRA’s 3rd Annual Golf Tournament on May 14, 2010, at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club.  Showing that even in these economic times, the foodservice industry recognizes there is strength in numbers.  Nearly 156 players, countless volunteers, and dozens of donors came together for an event supporting the Hawaii Restaurant Association in its service as the voice of the foodservice industry, and benefiting culinary scholarships that help make dreams come true for aspiring chefs and restaurateurs.

HRA on Facebook?!!!?!

Posted by steve 26 February, 2010 (0) Comment

Yep it’s true – HRA has a Facebook page! What is Facebook? It’s simply a place to keep up with friends and interesting stuff like food and food happenings in Hawaii. These days hundreds of millions of people use fb so your success depends upon being visible in this medium… heck, why not, it’s FREE!

Not Convinced yet? Take for example the average tourist who simply LOVES Hawaii and wants to continue the experience, keep up on what’s new, or recommend things to do in Hawaii to others… that’s what fb is for. You want to be there in big living color and hopefully, even better, in videos. Videos? On fb? Yeah, and on places like youtube too! Check out an example:

Or how about a visitor who’s in town looking for a place to eat? Yep, fb too. Especially for those with traveling with iPhones and other smart phones. Which means that HRA and you need to know how to do this thing called “social networking” on sites like fb. It’s the way marketing is going, so get with the program and be on the cutting edge!

Or how about HRA members who want to keep up on what’s new in the industry? yep, fb too. So just click the FB button to discover a whole new world of advantages that’ll make your venue fat and happy!

IF YOU WANT TO GET UP TO SPEED on this form of promotion, visit facebook pages like Hawaii Restaurant Association Page or MyAlohaVibe. Both are free to share images, comments and announcements on your food, ambiance and events with the world. Top-of-mind means bottom-line success. Or if you’re interested in hiring social networking experts, see special HRA Member Deals offered by our Allied Members.

Wong Pushes Culinary Excellence

By Erika Engle (Honolulu Star-Bulletin)

Alan Wong

Honolulu chef and restaurateur Alan Wong is just back from New York where he and a host of culinary glitterati selected the winner of the 2010 Bocuse d’Or USA Competition at the Culinary Institute of America.

Winner James Kent, from New York, will represent the United States at the Bocuse d’Or International Culinary Competition – the Olympics for chefs – in Lyon, France, a year from now. ….”Imagine if Hawaii was to produce a Bocuse d’Or finalist,” he said. “Even if they didn’t win, having a couple young culinarians from Hawaii raises the level of the next generation, because when you want to compete on that kind of a high level, you will get better and bring the people underneath you up, too. It can only be good, a win-win,” he said.
